Mini Pig Training Course 2
Mini pig training course 2. This course includes some really fun tricks and then an essential skill that every pig should master. Let’s start with the essential harness training. It can be a struggle for some pigs and moreso for some owners. As a result, we offer multiple methods and several videos to offer the best instructions to help you succeed in not only placing the harness on your pig, but also learning how to walk on the leash. Overall, the difficulty level for this course in low to medium. You just need patience, some treats, and your favorite pig! Pigs of any age will enjoy learning these cute tricks and essential life skills. We offer ample support and guidance to make sure you are successful.
Teaching a Mini Pig to Weave This is an adorable trick to teach. Your pig will be weaving in and out between the cones or poles in no time at all. All you need is the right treat and the steps to teach. This is a great addition to an agility course. For this trick you will need some plastic cones from an athletic store or poles from agility kits that can be found on Amazon. This skill is more important than it may seem. Learning to maneuver on leash and off leash comes in handy when you are out in public with your pig, when you are trying to get around them in the house, and also strengthens your role as leader to the pig. Weaving seems like such a casual movement, but in the pig’s world, the herd leader uses subtle body language to direct the other pigs movement. By teaching your pigs to weave through the poles or cones at your direction, they are responding to your leadership body language. This results in a well balanced, calm pig that is not anxious or uneasy about the leadership structure.
Mini Pig Harness and Leash This skill can be intimidating for some pig parents, because our pigs get loud and wiggly when they feel they are being restrained. Sometimes it even seems like they get angry when they are asked to do something new. Mini pigs do not want to be held down, tethered, or unable to go where they want when they want. As a result, we have tried to include different methods with different pigs, so that you may find the method that is successful for you and your pig. Harness training is not a one size fits all method. Try some differenet approaches, see what works best for you and your pig. The #1 ingredient is patience. The #2 ingredient is treats and a kind voice for reward! If you try to force a pig, you will both end up frustrated. It’s essential to take it at their pace and use an approach that builds their trust and encourages cooperation in a relaxing environment. Once they understand the leash takes them fun places, even to the yard, they will happy stand to get leashed up and ready for their next adventure! We often call this an important life skill because as pigs get older and larger they can be more difficult to handle. If they are not harness and leash trained, it can be a very dangerous situation when owners are unable to get them into the car, to the veterinarians office for emergency care, or transported for emergency evacuations due to dangerous weather. Leash and harness training is a must!
